In this tutorial, you’ll make a simple cereal carton in Blender, then save three images: an orange version, a blue version, and a wide image with room for a headline.

ChatGPT will operate Blender for you. Your job is to send one prompt at a time and check the result before moving on.

1. Get your tools ready

You’ll need Blender installed on your computer and access to GPT-6.1 Terra in ChatGPT Work.

In the ChatGPT desktop app:

  • Switch to Work.

  • Open Advanced in the model picker and choose GPT-6.1 Terra.

  • Open Plugins → Computer Use. Install or enable it, and turn on its server and skill toggles.

  • On a Mac, allow Screen Recording and Accessibility access when prompted.

Open Blender. Choose File → Save As, create a folder called Mockup Practice, and save the project as sunrise-oats.blend. The default objects can stay for now.

2. Check that ChatGPT can use Blender

Send this in ChatGPT:

Use Computer Use to inspect my open Blender project, sunrise-oats.blend. We’ll build a product mockup in this file. Before changing anything, tell me whether you can see and operate Blender.

Approve Blender access if prompted. Continue once ChatGPT confirms it can use the app.

3. Build the carton

Paste:

In this Blender project, remove the default objects and build a simple rectangular cereal carton, 20 cm wide, 30 cm tall, and 8 cm deep. Use a matte orange material, add slightly rounded edges, and stand it upright on a flat gray floor. Save the project. Show me the carton and report its dimensions, then stop.

Check: You should see an upright orange box resting on the floor. Ask ChatGPT to fix any incorrect dimensions before continuing.

4. Add the product name

Paste:

Add “Sunrise Oats” to the front of the carton, with “Whole grain” below it in smaller letters. Use dark lettering that is easy to read against the orange. Keep both as separate, editable Blender text objects. Position them just in front of the surface so they don’t disappear into it. Save and show me the front.

Check: Both lines should be spelled correctly, fully visible, and facing outward.

5. Create the first product image

A render is the finished image Blender produces from your 3D scene.

Paste:

Add a camera and soft studio lighting. Frame the carton so I can see its front and a little of one side, with the whole carton visible. Set the image to 1200 × 1200 pixels. Render a small preview and show it to me before making the final image.

Check: Can you read the label? Do the edges look smooth? Does the carton sit on the floor?

If something looks wrong, describe that specific problem and ask for another preview.

When you’re happy, send:

Render the final image at 1200 × 1200 pixels and save it as orange-square.png in my Mockup Practice folder. Save the Blender project too.

6. Make the blue version

Paste:

Make an independent copy of the orange scene and name it Blue. Give its carton a separate material, then change that material to deep blue. Keep the orange scene unchanged. Keep the camera, lights, carton position, and image dimensions identical. If needed, change only the lettering color so it stays readable. Render and save blue-square.png in my Mockup Practice folder. Save the project.

Check: You should now have two square images with matching angles and lighting.

7. Make the wide campaign image

Paste:

Make an independent copy of the orange scene and name it Campaign. Set the image to 1920 × 1080 pixels. Adjust the framing so the whole carton sits on the right, leaving the left half as clear gray background for a headline. Keep the carton design and lighting consistent. Don’t add a headline. Show me a preview.

Once the layout looks right, send:

Render the final image at 1920 × 1080 pixels and save it as orange-wide.png in my Mockup Practice folder. Save the Blender project.

8. Check your files

Your folder should contain:

  • sunrise-oats.blend — the editable 3D project.

  • orange-square.png — the orange product image.

  • blue-square.png — the blue product image.

  • orange-wide.png — the campaign image.

Ask ChatGPT to reopen the saved project and confirm that all three scenes are present, both text objects remain editable, and the orange and blue carton colors can be changed independently.

You now have a reusable 3D mockup. Try changing the product name or carton color for your next version.
